In partnership with Yikodeen Footwear Limited, FG has launched a free leatherworks training program in Lagos, aiming to empower 100 individuals and address youth unemployment.
Abiola Arogundade, the Senior Special Assistant to the President for Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education (SSATVEE), disclosed that 50% of the participants would have the chance for direct employment with the company, while the remaining 50% would be eligible for non-collateral loans.

The opening ceremony, held in Isolo, Lagos, emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to youth development and skill acquisition as crucial elements for economic growth.
The one-month training program, running from Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, reflects the government’s initiative to boost the percentage of skilled workers among Nigerian youths from the current 15% to 50%. Arogundade highlighted the goal of creating more economic activity and increasing the highly skilled population.
At the opening ceremony, the Managing Director of Yikodeen Factory, Atunde Shamsideen, emphasized the workshop’s contribution to societal goals and the importance of youth empowerment in nation-building.
The comprehensive training program covers fundamental aspects of footwear making, including industrial processes, machinery usage, shoe production, and courses in finance and marketing.
Encouraging the trainees, Mosaku Ayodele, the National Chairman of the Cobblers and Leathers Artisans Association of Nigeria, stressed the importance of leveraging the opportunity to discover talents and focus on self-development, emphasizing that self-reliance is a key factor for success in life.
