FG Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, announced on Monday in Minna, Niger State, that the federal government has successfully secured a €995 million deal with the Brazilian Government and the German Deutsch Bank Group.
This financial arrangement is intended to support the implementation of the Green Imperative Programme in Nigeria.

The Green Imperative Programme, according to the Minister, aims to establish mechanization hubs in each of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria.
He highlighted that a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Federal Government and the John Deer Group, a subsidiary of Tata Equipment. The manufacturer has committed to delivering 10,000 units of tractors and implements in tranches of 2,000 units annually for the next five years.
Senator Kyari emphasized the significance of the Greener Hope Initiative, describing it as a pivotal platform for transforming the deficit narrative in Nigeria’s agricultural mechanization sector.
President Bola Tinubu, addressing the Food Security and Agricultural Mechanization Programme in Niger State, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring food sufficiency and protecting local industries for sustainable economic growth.
He stressed the importance of deploying cutting-edge agricultural machinery and technology for large-scale agro-value chain development in the state.
President Tinubu acknowledged the need to address challenges and transform Nigeria into an economy of opportunities. He expressed confidence in the ability to provide food for all students in Nigerian schools.
Nigeria is currently grappling with unprecedented food inflation, standing at 35.41% according to the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics. The soaring prices of food items have led to a food crisis and nationwide protests by organized labor, highlighting the persistent hunger in the country.
In response, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has offered a donation of 25,000 tons of wheat from the Government of Ukraine to Nigeria, aiming to provide emergency food assistance to 1.3 million crisis-affected people in the country.
