The Federal government (FG) has revealed its intentions to boost the country’s power generation from approximately 4000 megawatts to 6500 megawatts within the next five to six months.
Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, shared this information during a meeting with Agency heads and stakeholders in the Nigerian power industry.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the current power level of 4000 megawatts and emphasized plans to significantly increase it.
Adelabu stated, “4000 megawatts is not acceptable, and we have plans to increase the megawatts to a minimum of 6000 to 6500 within the next three to six months.”
He emphasized the goal of reaching an agreement to achieve this increase. Despite noting that the highest power generation recorded was 5,700 megawatts three years ago, he believed the existing infrastructure could support generating between 6,000 and 6,500 megawatts.
The Minister attributed the low power to gas supply issues but assured that the power generation companies have the capacity to reach 6000 MW once gas supply challenges are addressed. He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to working tirelessly to rectify the situation promptly and achieve stable electricity.
Adelabu highlighted the dedication of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to identify and address underlying issues, ensuring a reliable electricity supply for consumers.
The convened meeting aimed to address challenges within the power sector and work towards achieving stable power supply.
