The Department of State Services (DSS) has appealed to organized labor to reconsider its planned strike for the sake of peace and public order.
Peter Afunanya, the Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications for the DSS, emphasized that while the Service recognizes the legitimate right of the labor movement to stage protests, it is essential for all parties to prioritize dialogue and negotiation over actions that may escalate tensions.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Afunanya stated, “The DSS calls on parties to pursue dialogue and negotiation rather than engaging in conduct that could heighten tensions.
This is particularly important as the Service is aware that some elements are planning to use the opportunity of the protest to foment crisis and, by extension, widespread violence, which would undoubtedly worsen the socio-economic situation across the country.”
Acknowledging that governments at all levels are working to address the prevailing economic challenges, Afunanya urged citizens to give the authorities the benefit of the doubt.
He emphasized the need for internal stability and unity, warning against exploiting fault lines that could endanger peaceful coexistence with dire consequences.
Afunanya also implored parents and guardians to guide their children away from actions that could jeopardize public safety, while urging various sectors, including political parties, opposition groups, religious and traditional institutions, civil society, and non-governmental bodies, to eschew violence and demonstrate leadership in these challenging times.
The DSS, aligning with its opposition to violence as a means of settling challenges, pledged to work with other security and law enforcement agencies to ensure lasting peace in the country.
