On Monday, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, appointed 38-year-old Omobayo Godwins as the new deputy governor of the state, following the impeachment of the former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.
Omobayo was subsequently sworn in by the Edo State Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa. In his remarks, Omobayo expressed his commitment to supporting Governor Godwin Obaseki to complete his second term.

Omobayo Godwins was born on July 19, 1986, and is from Ibillo in Akoko-Edo local government area.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a Master of Science (MSc) in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
He is a registered member of both the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
Omobayo contested as the Labour Party candidate for the Federal House of Representatives seat in Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency during the 2023 elections.
