Approximately 1,500 scholarships are awarded annually to students demonstrating academic excellence, social and political engagement, and alignment with the foundation’s values.

Benefits

Scholarship recipients will receive:

  • Tuition-free education at a German university.
  • A monthly allowance of €934 plus additional individual allowances.
  • A €300 monthly allowance for study costs.
  • Possible family and childcare allowances.
  • Health insurance coverage.

Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Enrollment at a recognized institution of higher education in Germany.
  2. Proof of German language proficiency (B2 level or higher, or DSH2).
  3. Outstanding academic performance:
    • Excellent school grades or academic achievements.
    • Certified academic transcripts and degree certificates (translated into German or English if required).
  4. Active social engagement and a strong interest in politics.
  5. A compelling motivation to apply to the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
  6. Additional Notes:
    • International applicants can apply for graduate and doctoral programs.
    • Undergraduate scholarships are available only to German nationals.
    • Refugees must include documentation on residence permits or asylum status.
