Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is offering a fully funded PhD scholarship in Green Transition and Sustainability at the Department of Management, Society, and Communication (MSC). The PhD program at CBS focuses on multidisciplinary research, examining responsible management, governance, and societal challenges. The scholarship supports researchers investigating the role of business, government, consumers, and civil society organizations in driving sustainability and environmental change.
Scholarship Benefits
The CBS PhD Scholarship offers comprehensive financial and academic support, including:
- Monthly Salary: Ranges from DKK 28,993 – DKK 35,015 ($4,100 – $4,950) based on seniority.
- Pension Contribution: 17.1% of salary included.
- Tuition Fees: Fully covered for the duration of the PhD.
- Research Funding: Support for research-related travel and courses.
- International Research Visit: Opportunity to spend time at another research institution.
- Office Space: Fully equipped workspace at CBS.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the CBS PhD Scholarship, applicants must:
- Hold a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences – Degree must be completed before the PhD start date.
- Meet GPA & Grading Requirements:
- Master’s Thesis: Minimum grade of 10 (on the Danish 7-point scale).
- GPA Requirement:
- Bachelor’s + Master’s GPA of at least 8.2 (Danish scale), OR
- Master’s degree GPA alone of at least 9.5.
- Alternative Option: If GPA does not meet the requirement, applicants can provide proof of ranking in the top 40% of their class.
- Have a Strong Research Background – Preferably in sustainability, governance, or business studies.
- Demonstrate English Proficiency – High-level academic writing and speaking skills required.
- Commit to Teaching Obligations – The PhD scholar will teach for 416 work hours over 3 years.
Note: Applicants must complete their Master’s degree before September 2025 to be eligible.
PhD Research Focus
This PhD scholarship will contribute to understanding the green transition by exploring:
- The Role of Business & Government in driving sustainability policies.
- Consumer Behavior & Civil Society Engagement in sustainability practices.
- Regulations & Ethical Practices shaping corporate responsibility.
Guidelines for Applications
Step 1: Prepare Required Documents
Applicants must submit:
- PhD Project Description (Max 5 pages), including:
- Research Question
- Initial Theoretical Framework & Methodology
- Empirical Data Description
- Work Plan for 3 Years
- Academic Transcripts – Master’s & Bachelor’s degree certificates.
- GPA Proof – Showing required grades or top 40% class ranking.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) – Detailing academic background & experience.
- List of Publications – If applicable.
- One Example of Previous Academic Work – Such as Master’s thesis.
Note: English language test results are NOT required at the time of application but may be requested later.
