A coalition of women’s rights organizations, known as Womanifesto, is demanding the immediate release of Chioma Okoli, who has been detained since September 2023 on charges of defaming Erisco Foods Limited.

The coalition, which includes over 150 organizations such as the Women Advocates and Research Documentation Centre (WARDC), Purple Woman Foundation, and ActionAid Nigeria, issued a statement condemning Okoli’s ongoing detention.

They pointed out that her imprisonment has resulted in the loss of her pregnancy and her means of livelihood.

The group also accused Erisco Foods Limited of prioritizing profit over the health and wellbeing of Nigerians. They called on the government to scrutinize the company’s products and labeling practices.

The organizations are demanding justice for Okoli and calling for an end to the harassment and intimidation of women who speak out against injustices.
