The Arewa Youths Forum (AYF) has issued a strong rebuke of the attacks on the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, by Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio.
The AYF characterized these attacks as mere attempts to divert attention from Akpabio‘s ongoing case before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement signed by its Acting National Secretary, Isa Dangaziya, the Forum expressed its disappointment in Akpabio, asserting that individuals facing corruption allegations should either be behind bars or in hiding due to public shame.
The AYF highlighted the various corruption cases against Akpabio, including an investigation into an alleged N40 billion fraud in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and over N86 billion contract scams.
The EFCC had previously invited Senator Godswill for questioning on these matters, and the AYF questioned how someone with such allegations could audaciously blame others for the nation’s misfortune.
The youth forum pointed out the irony of Senator Godswill, who has been accused of looting Akwa Ibom’s common patrimony and causing economic sabotage while serving as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, blaming Emefiele for the country’s economic challenges.
The AYF called on Senator Godswill to hide in shame, emphasizing that his alleged sins had been forgiven since joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), as Adams Oshiomhole had stated in the past. They urged him not to use Emefiele to curry favor and appear sanctimonious, as Nigerians are already aware of his alleged corrupt stature.
The AYF concluded that Senator Godswill’s comments were nothing more than diversionary tactics, describing it as “the pot calling the kettle black.” They emphasized the need for Senator Godswill to face the consequences of the corruption allegations against him rather than deflecting blame onto others.
