About Aquaya

The Aquaya Institute is a nonprofit dedicated to global health through universal access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). Aquaya delivers critical insights, data, and tools to inform policy, programs, and financing decisions, ultimately improving water and sanitation for vulnerable populations.

2024 Programs

WaterTRACS

  • Focus: Monitoring water quality, translating data into action, and strengthening water sector capacity.
  • Location: Ghana
  • Role: Support fieldwork

Water Quality Assurance Fund

  • Focus: Improving drinking water quality in rural, low-resource settings by incentivizing urban labs to extend testing services to rural areas.
  • Location: Kenya
  • Role: Support fieldwork (preferably speaks Kalenjin)

Project W

  • Focus: Supporting decision-makers with data-driven insights for sustainable WASH services.
  • Location: Anywhere, preferably Ghana or Kenya
  • Role: Two openings available

Benefits

Fellows receive:

  • Coverage of travel expenses, including a round-trip to Nairobi or Accra.
  • A stipend for lodging and living expenses.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be pursuing an MSc or PhD at a Kenyan or Ghanaian university in public health, environmental resources management, urban planning, or a related field.
  • Have the legal right to work in Ghana or Kenya.
  • Be fluent in English.
  • Have a passion for applying science and technology to development challenges.

  • Expertise in data management and statistical analysis.
  • Interest in research that informs development programming.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Outstanding organization and time management.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, maintaining a positive attitude and sense of humor.

  1. Submit Resume and Cover Letter: Email your resume and a thoughtful cover letter to aquayalearn@aquaya.org. Applications are due by May 31.
    • In the cover letter, explain your interest in the AquayaLEARN Fellowship and specify your preferred program (WaterTRACS, Water Quality Assurance Fund, Project W).
    • Use the email subject line: “Fellowship Application for [your name].”
  2. Complete Screening Form: Candidates will be required to complete a screening form after submitting their application.

Important Note

Applications without a cover letter will not be considered. Ensure your cover letter clearly states your interest and preferred program.
