The UNICEF Venture Fund Gender-Responsive Innovation Challenge seeks to promote diversity and inclusion in early-stage investing, focusing on startups utilizing cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), data science (DS), drones, blockchain, or extended reality (XR) to address the needs of marginalized children and families.

The Challenge aims to;
1. Invest in diverse and underrepresented founders, with a focus on women founders.
2. Increase the availability of digital products and services catering to the specific needs of vulnerable populations, including children, women, people with disabilities, and refugees.
3. Facilitate inclusive user design in innovation development.
Selection Criteria
Five outstanding companies in gender-responsive innovation will be selected based on predefined criteria by a committee comprising GITEX Africa and UNICEF Venture Fund representatives. Winners will be announced at the GITEX Africa Summit conference on May 29-31 in Marrakech, Morocco.
Benefits
Selected companies will receive mentorship and technical assistance from Venture Fund experts to enhance their investment readiness and potential for future funding. This includes 10 hours of technical mentoring covering areas like Open Source, business development, frontier technology, software development, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Additionally, they will receive support to navigate the Venture Fund sourcing and selection process effectively.
