The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Levant regional young talents program is designed to enhance the involvement of young women in science across Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and the Syrian Arab Republic.
This initiative seeks out and rewards promising young female researchers in the fields of Life Sciences (biology, biochemistry, biophysics, genetics, physiology, health sciences – COVID-19, neurosciences, biotechnologies, ecology, and ethology) as well as Physical Sciences (physics, chemistry, petroleum engineering, mathematics, engineering sciences, information sciences, Earth and Universe sciences).

Benefits
The program acknowledges six talented young Arab women researchers for their research quality and encourages them to pursue successful careers in science in the mentioned countries.
For Postdoctoral Researchers:
– Three endowments of €10,000 each for Arab women researchers working in a Research Laboratory, Institute, or University.
– Three endowments of €6,000 each for Arab women pursuing a Ph.D. in a Research Laboratory, Institute, or University.
Eligibility
Postdoctoral Researchers
– Holds a PhD in one of the specified science fields.
– Nationality: Iraqi, Jordanian, Lebanese, Palestinian, or Syrian.
– Works in a Research Laboratory, Institute, or University in one of the mentioned countries.
– Age: Not exceeding 45 years old.
Ph.D. Students
– Holds a Bachelor’s (B.Sc.) and a Master’s (M.Sc.) degree in the specified science fields.
– Full-time Ph.D. student, registered during 2023-2024 in the 2nd year of the Ph.D. program.
– Nationality: Iraqi, Jordanian, Lebanese, Palestinian, or Syrian.
– Works in a Research Laboratory, Institute, or University in one of the mentioned countries.
– Age: Not exceeding 35 years old.
Selection Criteria
– Outstanding academic record, including publications, conference presentations, and patents.
– Scientific quality and usefulness of the research project.
– Adherence to international ethical regulations.
– Innovative approach and expected research outcomes.
– Ability to communicate and promote sciences to a younger audience.
– Career path.
Animal Testing Considerations
– Projects involving experimental protocols causing animal suffering will be rejected.
– Detailed descriptions and justifications for any animal experimentation must be provided.
– A commitment to avoiding animal suffering during the project is required.
Note: Endowments are dedicated solely to scientific research development and cannot substitute the laboratory’s responsibilities towards its researchers. They are non-renewable and can be combined with other research grants.
