The Next Generation Resource Governance Leaders Program is an internship designed to blend theoretical knowledge with practical experience, equipping participants with the necessary multidisciplinary skills and research abilities to address complex governance challenges.

The program aims to nurture a new generation of young pan-African leaders, creating a sustainable pathway for good governance across the continent.
The program offers a structured capacity development process within an enabling working environment, including training in transformational leadership, professional and career development, and digital communication and technology skills. In addition to technical training in resource governance, interns will receive guidance and tools to set and achieve personal and professional goals, along with comprehensive ethical leadership training.
ACEP is now accepting applications for the 7th cohort of the program, which will take place from September to November 2024.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
- Be a young African residing in Africa with a passion for ensuring the continent’s extractive resources contribute to sustainable and inclusive development.
- Possess relevant academic qualifications in fields such as economics (including energy), engineering (petroleum/electrical), oil and gas management, public policy, law, political economy, development studies, development finance, project management, communications, statistics, mathematics, etc.
- Demonstrate good writing skills with clarity and logical flow.
- Have adequate knowledge of relevant qualitative and quantitative analytical tools (e.g., R, Stata, Eviews, NVivo, Atlas.ti).
- Be capable of multitasking, prioritizing, and meeting multiple deadlines.
- Exhibit good interpersonal skills and a strong team spirit.
- Show creativity and initiative in problem-solving.
- Display a strong sense of ownership and responsibility for decisions and actions.
- Have a solid sense of leadership.

Application Documents
Applicants are required to submit the following documents:
- Curriculum vitae in reverse chronological order.
- Copies of higher education degree certificates.
- A motivational statement (not exceeding 500 words).
- A current written reference from a university lecturer, former employer, or another professional (not from a family member).
- A written response to one of the two provided essay questions (the questions can be found here).
Note: Documents not in English should be accompanied by English translations.
Selection Process
All required documents are critical in the selection process. Candidates who pass the initial review will be invited for an interview in mid-August 2024.
