Former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has urged elders and stakeholders of the party to intervene in the political crisis unfolding in Rivers State “before it escalates into a national crisis.”
Speaking in Lagos on Friday, he also called on President Bola Tinubu not to overlook the threat posed by some lawmakers in the State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Chief George emphasized that Rivers State is a PDP stronghold, stressing that ignoring the situation is not an option.
He asserted that all PDP lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have forfeited their seats and are in no position to threaten Governor Fubara.
According to George, their plan to initiate impeachment proceedings against the governor is bound to fail.
“The people of Rivers State are PDP loyalists. Those attempting to impeach the governor are being influenced by certain interests. This must cease because any unrest in Rivers could jeopardize our democracy.
“We must recall the ‘Operation Wetie’ that originated in the former Western Region but eventually spread nationwide, leading to the collapse of the First Republic in 1966.
“All parties involved in the Rivers crisis must refrain from actions that could disrupt peace and order in our country.
“The members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of our party should act as the elders in the room, take swift action, and resolve this crisis before it spirals out of control,” he stated.
