List of Prominent Nigerian politicians whose children turned against them
On Wednesday, April 24, the son of Governor Ganduje visited the Kano State Anti-corruption and Public Complaints Commission office to show support for the agency’s actions against his father.

This visit occurred shortly after the chair of the anti-graft agency, Muhuyi Magaji, revealed that the commission was investigating a new case involving N51 billion allegedly misappropriated during Ganduje’s administration.
Earlier, the commission had filed a criminal charge against the former governor of Kano over bribery allegations totaling $413,000 and N1.38 billion.
The agency stated that it had assembled at least 15 witnesses to testify against the APC national chairman, Abdulazeez Ganduje, the former governor’s first son, who reportedly visited the commission to express support for the investigation into his father, mother, and brother.
This public stance against his father is not unprecedented. In 2021, Abdulazeez Ganduje filed a petition against his mother, Hafsat Ganduje, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding land fraud and bribery allegations. This act follows a pattern of high-profile politicians whose children have publicly opposed them.
For instance, Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, the first child of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, famously wrote a scathing letter to her father in 2013.
The letter accused the former president of various wrongdoings, including orchestrating a third-term bid for himself and mistreating family members. However, she later denied being the author of the letter.
Similarly, former Senate President Bukola Saraki publicly opposed his late father, Olusola Saraki, during the 2011 governorship election in Kwara state. Bukola campaigned against his father’s choice of successor, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, and ultimately humiliated his father in the election process.
These instances highlight the complexities within prominent political families and the dynamics that can lead to public disputes between parents and their children.
