President Bola Tinubu has instructed relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the federal government to ensure that research outcomes in science and technology are utilized to enhance policies affecting the real sector.
Tinubu issued the directive during a visit by the president of the Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) and its fellows to the State House in Abuja.

He emphasized his commitment to integrating research outcomes with policy formulation and implementation across various sectors, including farming, manufacturing, information technology, and academia.
President Tinubu highlighted the importance of relying on research for solutions and actionable data, especially in addressing national and global challenges in health and education.
He urged relevant ministries, including education, health, and economic planning, to incorporate science research into their processes and policies. During his investiture as the Grand Patron of Science by the NAS, Tinubu supported the establishment of a national research fund to propel the country towards a knowledge-driven economy.
The NAS president, Professor Ekanem Braide, expressed gratitude for Bola’s support for a national research fund. She emphasized the potential for quicker progress by leveraging the inputs of various stakeholders, including the business community, academia, and the public sector.
Professor Braide recommended scaling up science research infrastructure and funding for the country’s universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
