He was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Evercare Hospital, Lekki, a few days before his demise.
The 62-year-old actor succumbed to cardiac arrest after experiencing a relapse about a week ago, prompting his immediate admission to the Lagos-based hospital.
Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, also confirmed the actor’s death.
Last year, Mr. Ibu underwent surgery to amputate one of his legs, a procedure he sought support and prayers for from his fans. Tributes have been pouring in from fans and colleagues, honoring the talented comedian.
Mr. Ibu was widely recognized for his comedic roles in movies such as “Issakaba” and “A Fool at 40,” earning him numerous nominations and awards.
The news of Mr. Ibu’s passing comes shortly after the death of his colleague, Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, known as Sisi Quadri, who was laid to rest on Saturday in his hometown of Iwo, Osun State.
