On March 2, 2024, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported that its operatives intercepted Ejike Chibuke Solomon, a 40-year-old businessman, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Solomon, attempting to board an Ethiopia Airlines flight to Vietnam via Addis Ababa, was found with 1.45 kilograms of concealed cocaine in his luggage.

NDLEA officers arrested him after a thorough search, revealing the illicit substance factory-fitted in his bag. Solomon claimed to be on a business trip to Vietnam.

In another operation on March 1, a special unit of the NDLEA targeted a syndicate dealing in methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin in Lagos.

The operatives raided Esimone Amachukwu Christopher’s home in Ejigbo, where Evelyn Nneka Okem was found in possession of 10.012 kilograms of methamphetamine.

Christopher is currently at large. Simultaneously, officers arrested 45-year-old Ebele Edwin Iwuegbunam in Festac town, Lagos, recovering 429.5 grams of cocaine and 7 kilograms of heroin.

In Kogi state, NDLEA officers on a stop-and-search operation intercepted a commercial bus carrying 28 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa (11kg), 100 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, and 500 tablets of diazepam along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway on March 1. The items were concealed in three plastic drums covered with cattle fats and were destined for Jos, Plateau state.

In Ogun state on February 29, operatives recovered 169kg of cannabis abandoned in a truck at Sagamu tollgate. In Lagos on February 28, 25 cartons of tramadol containing 325,000 pills were seized in Ikeja. The same day in Kano, Abdullahi Garba Khalil was apprehended with 2,745,000 capsules of pregabalin at Singer market.

On March 2, the 243 Recce Battalion, Nigerian Army, Badagry, transferred 27 sacks of cannabis sativa (1,110kg) recovered in Ajido by soldiers to the Seme Special Area Command of NDLEA. In Borno state, Hassan Muhammad was arrested on March 2 with 44,950 pills of tramadol at Moranti area.

In Abia state on February 28, NDLEA operatives raided a drug joint at Cemetery Barracks, Aba, arresting Ifeanyi Uche with varying quantities of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine. Another raid on March 1 at the abandoned Eyimba Hotel, Ogbor Hill, Aba, resulted in the seizure of illicit substances and the arrest of suspects.

Additionally, various NDLEA commands nationwide continued the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign, conducting sensitization lectures in schools and communities.
