The Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, ‘Seyi Makinde, has refuted claims by Akpabio that each of the 36 state governors received N30 billion from the federal government to address the food crisis.
The governor, speaking in Iseyin during the commissioning of the renovated Iseyin Central Mosque, dismissed the assertion made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, stating that Oyo State did not receive such funds and emphasized his commitment to transparency.

Makinde clarified that the state did not obtain N30 billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) or the federal government, challenging the accuracy of Akpabio’s statement.
He expressed concern over relying on unverified reports and stressed the need for leaders to inspire confidence and hope during challenging times, discouraging blame games.
As vice chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Makinde asserted that he could confirm that fellow governors also did not receive the mentioned funds.
He highlighted that Oyo State only received N2 billion from the federal government, part of the N5 billion promised to all states after the removal of the fuel subsidy, and clarified that there were requests for a refund of the N2 billion.
Makinde urged leaders to engage with the people, listen to their concerns, and make necessary policy adjustments rather than indulging in unverified claims that could undermine public confidence.
He questioned the motivation behind Akpabio’s statement and emphasized the need for responsible leadership in addressing hunger and discontent in the country.
