The Kano State Nigerian Police Command has issued a warning against the intimidation of healthcare workers, following an incident at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano.
The state’s Police Commissioner, Muhammad Usain Gumel, issued the warning in a statement to the press.

The Commissioner visited the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital to assess the security situation and met with the management regarding a recent incident of harassment involving a medical doctor.
Dr. Shehu Usman Abdulwahab was assaulted by aggrieved relatives of a female patient who died during childbirth at the hospital’s maternity section on Sunday. The timely intervention of the police prevented the situation from escalating further.
CP Gumel assured the hospital management that the Police Command is treating the matter seriously, and investigations have already commenced. In response to the incident, he ordered the deployment of additional personnel to enhance security within the hospital premises.
Emphasizing the commitment of the police to ensuring the safety and security of all individuals, including healthcare workers, the Commissioner stated, “The Kano Command will not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation against healthcare workers who are tirelessly dedicated to saving lives and caring for patients.”
He urged everyone to respect the sanctity of medical facilities and encouraged the resolution of disputes through lawful and peaceful means. The Commissioner emphasized that any grievances should be addressed through appropriate channels and by the law.
