The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that it will conduct its first computer-based examination, the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates (CB-WASSCE), from January 31 to February 17, 2024.
Dr. Amos Dangut, the Head of the National Office, revealed this information during a media conference in Lagos. A total of 8,285 candidates from across the federation have registered for the CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2024 – First Series.

Dangut assured candidates of a smooth and hitch-free examination, emphasizing that WAEC has completed the necessary preparations for the computer-based WASSCE.
He mentioned that CBT centers where the examination will take place have been inspected, equipped with servers, and subjected to trial tests.
A free mock examination was also conducted for registered candidates on January 23 and 24, 2024, without encountering any challenges.
As of January 29, 2024, a total of 8,285 candidates have registered, with 3,949 being male (47.66%) and 4,336 female (52.3%).
The examination will cover 19 subjects, comprising 26 papers. The hybrid mode will include on-screen Objective or Multiple-choice questions, with candidates responding to the screen.
The Essay and Practical questions will also be on-screen, with candidates responding using the answer booklets provided. Results are expected to be released 45 days after the conduct of the last paper.
