As per information received from a member of his team, the artist made a hospital visit on September 12, 2023, seeking treatment for an injury-related infection. Following this treatment, he received an injection.
Tragically, shortly after receiving the injection, he lost consciousness and, regrettably, did not regain consciousness.
The news of his passing reverberated through social media, with colleagues and fans expressing their profound sadness over the loss of the singer, whose most recent EP had been released in June 2023. A statement was posted on the singer’s Twitter account on Tuesday evening, formally confirming the heartbreaking news.
The statement read: “With deep sorrow, we confirm the passing of Promise Oladimeji Aloba PK/A Mohbad (Imole) on the 12th of September, 2023. He remained a shining light until the very end, and as we grieve the loss of his radiance, the family extends their gratitude for your thoughts and prayers. They kindly request that you continue to respect their privacy during this challenging period. Imole has finally found peace.”
Mohbad, also known as Imole, achieved considerable fame in 2020 with his hit song “Ko Po Ke.” In 2019, the rising star signed with Marlian Records, which is overseen by Naira Marley. Regrettably, he encountered disputes concerning his royalties and departed from the label in 2022. His legal team issued a statement alleging that his departure was a result of ongoing attacks, purportedly orchestrated by Naira Marley.
It’s worth noting that earlier in 2023, the artist reportedly attempted suicide due to issues with Marley’s label, as disclosed by Bella Shmurda during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo. According to Bella’s account, they were in an apartment when Mohbad left the room, and shortly afterward, his girlfriend rushed in, frantic because he had apparently tried to leap off the balcony in an attempt to take his own life.
Mohbad’s passing has left the public in mourning, with fans and fellow celebrities taking to social media to pay their respects to the budding star. In his short time in the spotlight on the path to success, his music left a significant mark on the Nigerian music industry.
