The Government of Canada is offering the Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) Program, providing funding for short-term study or research at Canadian post-secondary institutions. This exchange program supports students from ASEAN member states to contribute towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and strengthen Canadaโ€™s ties with the Indo-Pacific region.

Scholarship Benefits

The Canada-ASEAN SEED Scholarship provides:

โœ” College/Undergraduate (4 months): CAD 10,200
โœ” Graduate (4 months): CAD 10,200
โœ” Eligible Expenses Covered:

  • Visa or study/work permit fees
  • Round-trip airfare (most direct & economical route)
  • Health insurance
  • Accommodation, utilities, and food
  • Local transportation (public transit pass)
  • Books and supplies (excluding computers & equipment)
    โœ” Additional Benefits for Canadian Institutions:
  • CAD 500 per student for administrative costs
  • Reimbursement of employer compliance fees (if applicable)

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Canada-ASEAN SEED Scholarship, applicants must:

โœ… Be a citizen of an ASEAN country:

  • Brunei Darussalam
  • Cambodia
  • Indonesia
  • Laos (Lao PDR)
  • Malaysia
  • Myanmar
  • The Philippines
  • Singapore
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
    โœ… Be enrolled full-time at an ASEAN post-secondary institution.
    โœ… Pay tuition fees at their home institution for the full duration of the exchange.

Ineligible Candidates

๐Ÿšซ Students who:

  • Hold or have applied for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Are already participating in a Canadian government-funded scholarship program.
  • Are currently enrolled in a degree/diploma/certificate program at a Canadian institution.
  • Have previously received a SEED scholarship.

For Canadian Institutions

โœ” Must be a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
โœ” Must have a student exchange agreement with the ASEAN home institution (for undergraduate & college students only).
โœ” Must apply on behalf of students.

Required Documents

๐Ÿ“Œ Proof of Citizenship โ€“ Copy of passport or national ID (must match country of application).
๐Ÿ“Œ Privacy Notice Statement โ€“ Signed within the last six months.
๐Ÿ“Œ Letter of Intent (Max 1 Page):

  • Explains the study/research plan in Canada.
  • Justifies choice of institution, program, and supervisor.
  • Shows alignment with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
  • Describes how the scholarship will help fight poverty and promote development in ASEAN.
    ๐Ÿ“Œ Letter of Full-Time Enrollment (From Home Institution):
  • On official letterhead.
  • Dated within the last six months.
  • Confirms full-time student status.
    ๐Ÿ“Œ Letter of Support (From Home Institution Professor/Director, 1 Page):
  • Explains the benefits of the exchange for the student and home institution.
  • Assesses the studentโ€™s commitment to development goals.
    ๐Ÿ“Œ Letter of Invitation (Graduate Students Only, 1 Page):
  • From a Canadian supervisor on institutional letterhead.
  • Confirms mentorship & research collaboration.
  • Explains benefits to the Canadian institution & peers.
    ๐Ÿ“Œ Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Between Institutions:
  • Confirms that tuition fees will not be charged for undergraduate students.
    ๐Ÿ“Œ Ranking of Applications (From Canadian Institution):
  • Sent to seed-bpeed@cbie.ca with MyEduCanada application numbers.

Guidelines for Applications

๐Ÿ“Œ Application Deadline: March 31, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EDT

Step 1: Contact Your Home Institution

๐Ÿ“Œ Reach out to your universityโ€™s international office to express interest.
๐Ÿ“Œ Confirm if your institution has a partnership with a Canadian university/college.

Step 2: Canadian Institution Applies on Your Behalf

๐Ÿ“Œ Canadian post-secondary institutions must submit applications online.

Step 3: Application Submission (By Canadian Institution)

1๏ธโƒฃ Assign a program coordinator to complete the application.
2๏ธโƒฃ Register on the MyEduCanada Portal (Institution Account Required).
3๏ธโƒฃ Select “Canada-ASEAN SEED Program” and click Apply.
4๏ธโƒฃ Fill in application details and upload documents (max file size: 5MB).
5๏ธโƒฃ Review & validate the application before submission.
6๏ธโƒฃ Accept terms and submit the application (confirmation email received).

Selection Process

โœ” Evaluation Based On:

  • Study/research relevance to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
  • Impact on poverty reduction & regional development in ASEAN.
  • Academic merit & potential contributions to home/host institutions.
  • Strength of institutional linkages & student commitment.
  • Ranking of candidates by Canadian institutions.

Scholarship Conditions

โœ” Students must:

  • Engage in full-time studies or research at a Canadian institution.
  • Return to their home institution after completing the exchange.
    โœ” Restrictions:
  • No clinical training or research involving direct patient care.
  • Scholarships are non-deferrable and non-renewable.
