Applications are now open for the TechWomen Emerging Leaders Scholarship Programme 2025 For Women In Tech.
TechWomen is an initiative designed to empower, connect, and support the next generation of women leaders in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) from Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East. The program provides participants with the opportunities and resources they need to advance their careers, fulfill their ambitions, and inspire women and girls in their communities.

Program Benefits
TechWomen covers the following expenses for participants:
- Roundtrip international airfare from the participant’s home country to the U.S.
- Domestic airfare from San Francisco or Chicago to Washington, D.C.
- Housing in the San Francisco Bay Area or Chicago, Illinois during the mentorship period.
- Meals and incidentals.
- Hotel accommodation in Washington, D.C.
- Public transportation to the participant’s host company.
- Local transportation to group program events in San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
Note: Participants are responsible for personal expenses related to non-program activities, such as independent sightseeing and non-program-related travel.
Housing Information
Participants will be housed in shared apartments in the San Francisco Bay Area or Chicago. Each participant will have a private bedroom, while common areas like the living room and kitchen will be shared. The program does not provide accommodations for spouses, children, or dependents.
Important: Due to the fast-paced nature of the program, arrival and departure dates are fixed. Adjustments to host city or mentorship placement are not possible.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Have at least two years of full-time professional experience in STEM at the time of application (internships or unpaid work do not count).
- Hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Be proficient in English (spoken and written).
- Be a citizen and permanent resident of one of the following countries: Albania, Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, or Zimbabwe.
- Be eligible for a U.S. J-1 exchange visitor visa.
- Have not applied for an immigrant visa to the U.S. (excluding the Diversity Visa lottery) within the last five years.
- Not hold U.S. citizenship or be a U.S. permanent resident.
Preference is given to applicants who:
- Live and work in a TechWomen program country during the application and program periods (special consideration for displaced applicants).
- Show leadership potential in their field through work, volunteer activities, community involvement, and education.
- Commit to sharing what they learn and mentoring women and youth in their home countries.
- Have limited or no previous experience in the United States.
- Have a history of voluntary or public service.
- Demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to innovation.
- Are open to exchange programs, mentoring, and partnership opportunities, and display confidence and maturity.
Diversity is encouraged, and individuals with disabilities are invited to apply.
Selection Process
Timeline:
- November 2024 – January 2025: Application period open.
- April 2025: Semifinalists contacted.
- May 31, 2025: Final decisions announced.
- September – October 2025: U.S. TechWomen program takes place.
Applications are reviewed by independent selection committees made up of industry leaders and regional experts. Semifinalists may have interviews with U.S. Embassy personnel in their home country.
