American rap superstar Kendrick Lamar is set to headline the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, marking his return to the Super Bowl stage three years after performing as a guest during Dr. Dre’s iconic halftime performance.
In a statement, Lamar expressed his excitement, saying, “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”

Jay-Z, whose Roc Nation co-produces the halftime show, praised Lamar, calling him “a once-in-a-generation artist and performer.” Jay-Z added, “Kendrick Lamar’s deep love for hip-hop and culture shapes his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
Lamar and his business partner Dave Free, through their company pgLang, will serve as the creative directors for the performance.
Seth Dudowsky, Head of Music at the NFL, also highlighted Lamar’s significance, stating, “Few artists have impacted music and culture as profoundly as Kendrick Lamar. He consistently creates moments that resonate, redefine, and shake the very foundation of hip-hop.”
In 2024, Lamar was embroiled in a high-profile rap feud with Drake, leading to the creation of several new hits, including “Meet the Grahams,” “6:16 in LA,” “Euphoria,” and “Not Like Us,” which was a contender for Song of the Summer. By the end of the summer, the feud had cooled, with Rolling Stone declaring Lamar the winner—a status further cemented by his selection as the Super Bowl halftime performer.
Super Bowl LIX will take place on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, marking the eighth time the stadium has hosted the Super Bowl, the most of any NFL venue, and the first time since 2013. The game will be broadcast by Fox.
Lamar’s last album, *Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers*, was released in 2022. He joins a prestigious list of recent Super Bowl halftime performers, including Usher in 2024, Rihanna in 2023, Dr. Dre and his guests (including Lamar) in 2022, The Weeknd in 2021, and Shakira and Jennifer Lopez in 2020.
